 Answers on horses
« Thread Started on Nov 7, 2009, 9:09am »

Many likely know all this but perhaps not all.

Ive been trying out the horse functions and here's what I found out:

Advantages:>>>>>>>>>>>>

= being mounted is mucho bonus to your speed. Great for town to town travel or wilderness exploration :D ;D

= Said speed is above the typical speed of most monsters so you can now flee from more groups

= If you have the Mounted Combat feat you get a small bonus to AC. This is a stackable bonus! So woot! :-*

Disadvantages:>>>>>>>>>>>>

= being mounted zoinks a few skills like hide and picklocks. Dismount and they are back to normal. :-/

= When you dismount the horse becomes a low level (30 hp) party member as a follower/summons. You can right click on them for issuing silent commands like "hold position".

= Penalty to ranged combat. -4 or -2 (if you have mounted archery).

Horse management:>>>>>>>>>>>>

= If you tranistion while dismounted the horse will transition with you. Which looks wierd if you just walked into the bank.

= to avoid the transition following you need to remove the horse from the party.

= The horse script was made for single player. While you could steal a dismounted horse please don't. :P

= If you are mounted when you logout you will be mounted when you log back in. This includes if the server resets.

= If you die while mounted and respawn you will be mounted but the "come alive" code resets all the magic and modifiers on you. You need to dismount and remount to restore the proper codes.

= When dismounting in town generaly you will want to follow up with a right click on the horse (or its party picture) and select "stand your ground" to give a silent command. Then RP tieing it up or not.

= Horses might die if you leave them on a dangerous map. This has not yet happened to me. However, it is possible.

So....

How do you use a horse:>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hidden amid your right click radials are the commands:

"Assign Horse"
Use once on the target animal. Then use again on yourself.

"Individual Mount"
Target your horse and you will climb up.
Behold the speed!

"Individual Dismount"
Target yourself and you will get off.

So.....

Where do you buy a horse?>>>>>>>>>>>>

There is no purchase script and the assign commands look like they would bypass it anyway. Given the D+D pricing on horses and the typical adventurers income its not a huge deal. (Like a few hundred gold when you carry a few thousand).

Horses are in MoonKiss and a huger selection outside Hillsfar.

So.....

What about Paladin horses?>>>>>>>>>>>>

Celestial summons type horse for Paladins level 5 and up. Definitely bad RP to steal one. Seriously... those horses IC RP are smarter, part of a dieties scope of awareness, can desummon on a whim... which would be fun to see at full gallop or when expecting to escape a horde of enemies. Id be quite happy to have a DM click-kill someone taking a paladin horse without permission.
And... the Paladin horse has a different graphic from all the others. So its kinda obvious you are on one.
And... no ... it has not been possible to change the appearance of the Paladin horse. Dsabrae reports bad stuff resulted when he ran previous tests.

Further:

If you are on a paladin mount when the server resets when you dismount the horse will automatically unsummon.

Can then be resummoned.

Appears odd in RP situations.

No other known way to "unsummon" the paladin mount found.

click the assign mount command on your paladin mount twice to unsummon.

Also, paladin mounts cannot be mounted by anyone but that particular paladin . . even if the mount is put out of the party.

oh kewl, thanks for the tip.

Also checked and if I am dismounted when logging off the paladin horse will desummon.

Not sure what happens with a regular horse.
